An Edinburgh, Scotland, teen could face criminal charges for tweeting a photo of a dying hit-and-run victim but doing nothing to help the man.
Ikram Choudhury snapped the photo outside an Edinburgh shopping center early Sunday, posting with the caption “Eeeehm wtf? Some guy just casually lying outside Ocean Terminal.”
When asked by other followers if he had done anything to help, Choudhury said he thought the man was drunk. “What if like i went over n he like tried doin some dodgy shit to me” he tweeted.
Angry users shared the photo with police, who responded to the scene about 10 minutes after the tweet was sent. Choudhury has since deleted both the photo and his Twitter account – apparently on the request of police, The Scottish Daily Record reported.
Before taking down the photo, Choudhury also reportedly tweeted an apology saying “RE: Unfortunate Incident I’ve just turned 17, not 19, I was the passenger in a moving vehicle not the driver. Reported. With Regrets.”
The teen could face charges for failing to stop and help the dying man, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, authorities identified the victim as 35-year-old Craig Williams, who was struck by a car after apparently falling asleep in a bus lane, the Edinburgh Evening News reported.
He was taken to a local hosptial but later died of his injuries.
